Writing

Laura is an award-winning writer who works across multiple genres. You can learn more about her awards and publications here. She is represented by Anna Power at Johnson & Alcock.

Laura is currently finalising a non-fiction book proposal for Commonplace: a story about growing up in an Irish family in Britain, the search for identity, and the unexpected discovery that grief can be a catalyst for a more creative, fulfilling existence.

Laura is also working on a series of essays about grief, memory, motherhood and the art of drag, as well as a collection of short stories set between Ireland and north-east England.

She write a weekly Substack called ‘Guess what? Me’ where she shares thoughts on some of the above, as well as less weighty topics.

Projecting Grief

Laura is the interviewer and writer for Projecting Grief, a portraiture and storytelling project telling the stories of people who have finding distraction, comfort or hope in a creative pursuit after a loss.

Laura and photographer Jo Ritchie host in-person exhibitions, facilitate creative workshops and online seminars and have worked with Leeds International Festival of Ideas, York Festival of Ideas, NHS Greater Manchester and others.

Oral History

Laura is a trained oral historian and has previously attended the Oral History Network of Ireland conference in Limerick. In 2023, she recorded and transcribed oral histories for the Irish in Britain Look Back to Look Forward 50th anniversary project.

In 2024, she will be working with poet Ian Duhig and Leeds Museums and Galleries on a creative writing project exploring the personal and public histories of the Irish in Leeds.
